How Corporate America is Hacking Our Brains

I got turned onto this from Lifehacker, one of my favorite web sites, about an interview with Dr. Robert Lustig, pediatric endocrinologist who became famous when a YouTube video of his lecture "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" went viral.  He's now gone on to write a new book called  "The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains".

In the interview he frames the discussion of how our media and corporate driven society is hacking our brains to further their own ends, and making us all miserable in the process. I've been involved with the internet since it's beginnings and what this man has to say about what we're doing to ourselves, what we're allowing to be done, and how we can move beyond it is rather poignant.

Dr. Lustig speaks plainly about complex interactions between things like diet, depression, addiction and social media with our brains. It is all expressed in easily understood terms and may give you a new outlook on your own behaviors. Fascinating stuff.

Highlights of the discussion.

What do we mean by "hack" in general?

What's the difference between "marketing" and "propaganda"?

What is the difference between "happiness" and "pleasure" and why the difference matters.

How corporations manipulates us.

Plus much more...

The interview is here on YouTube.
